Additional details from Microsoft on the End of Life for Windows XP and Office 2003

Uncategorized
With the 8 April 2014 deadline for retiring Windows XP, Office 2003, Exchange Server 2003 and other end-of-life'd products rapidly approaching, it's important that people currently using these products understand exactly what is happening.  Microsoft has done a good job of explaining it to the tech-types but I don't believe that we have done an adequate job of getting the information out.  Below is a link to the Microsoft site explaining what's going on but the short story is the following: On 8 April 2014, Windows XP, Office 2003 and a number of other products will receive their last updates. Vulnerabilities in these products not patched in the updates released on 8 April 2014 will never be patched by Microsoft. If you have sensitive data on your computer or network…

Uncategorized
We are in the final stages of decomissioning all of our production web and email hosting servers.  In the process of doing so, a number of clients whose sites were hosted on one of the servers (DC3S1) received an email with the subject "Subscription event notification: The subscription term is about to expire".  These messages were sent in error and can be safely ignored.

Don’t want to buy a new computer but don’t want to keep XP after April either? There are some very good options to keep your existing hardware and avoid the pitfalls that will come with keeping Windows XP.

Uncategorized
We've mentioned it time and again before, but Microsoft is officially killing off Windows XP (and a slew of other older products) on 8 April of 2014.  There are plenty of details in the earlier article here if you're interested.  This article though is for the folks that have Windows XP on good hardware and they don't want to replace their current computer and they don't want to pony up for an upgrade to Windows 7 (or Windows 8).  If this is you, grab a cup of coffe and let's talk a little about penguins.   Linux is a free, Unix-like operating system that will run on computers that currently run Microsoft Windows.

Windows XP dies on 8 April of 2014, what are my options? What does this mean to me?

Uncategorized
Microsoft is ending support for Windows XP on 8 April 2014.  If you still use Windows XP, it's important that you know what's happening and what your options are. On 8 April 2014, Microsoft will release the final update(s) for Microsoft Windows XP.  The tech industry has worked hard to tell people that this is happening but hasn't done a good job of answering the question "What does this mean for me, the end user?".  I'm going to do a quick recap of what is happening and then attempt to answer the important question of what the end of XP means to you. First, a quick recap.  Windows XP was launched in October of 2001, now 12 years ago.  Microsoft provides patches and updates to Windows XP in it's monthly…
